Kiel, Germany will be the location of one of the largest F18 fleet to ever compete the F18 World Championships. Beginning July 11th almost 200 Formula 18 catamarans will take to the water to see where they rank against the World’s best sailors, and a talented few will have the chance to take home the top prizes.
Many highly competitive sailors from around the world are choosing the Goodall Design C2 catamaran to guarantee their best possible results, we’d like to take the opportunity to introduce some of them.
The name Demesmaeker is well known within the F18 class. After 12 world championships, and a best result of 6th place, what Patrick Demesmaeker has just about seen it all. When asked what he looks forward to the most is “…is the competition and friendship amongst the best catamaran sailors of the world!”
Currently ranked number 1 in Belgium, Patrick Demesmaeker spends much of his time working to develop the youth team at the Royal Belgium Yacht Club.
When asked about being ranked number 1, Patrick comments “But for how long? The youth teams are coming closer and closer, already sometimes they win a battle…. but not the war!”
The youth Patrick is referring to are the teams, Philip Hendrickx and Filip Olyslager and August Maene and Thomas De Somer, who have also chosen the C2 to best develop their sailing.
August and Thomas competed last year in Ireland and managed some very good races. “We are really looking forward the Worlds in Kiel, we have sailed together for 3 years now and are eager to compete against some of the best Catamaran sailors in the world.” Says August about the upcoming competition.
This will be the first major event for Phillip and Filip, who usually sail a VIPER in the RBSC Youth Team. “We have been training as hard as possible for this opportunity to measure ourselves against the world’s best. We will also be one of the lightest teams out there but this won’t stop us from pushing it to the limit in the breeze. If we sail to our maximum capability and make good use of every opportunity on the race track, we will be going home with a big smile!”
In the lead up to the World Championships we will introduce a few more sailors who have chosen the C2 to help them reach their own specific goals at the world championships.
